At least 10 dead in German train collision: rescuers

BERLIN: At least 10 people died when a regional passenger train collided with a goods train late on Saturday night in Saxony-Anhalt, eastern Germany, police and firemen said.

Other people were seriously injured in the accident which happened near Oschersleben, close to Magdeburg, the firemen and a federal police spokesman in Pirna said.

They could not give numbers. The regional train, the HarzElbeExpress, was travelling between Magdeburg and Halberstadt.

Around 100 firemen, police and rescue workers were at the scene.

Rail traffic has been interrupted.
